Family photo sessions are one of my favorite photography genres.
Nothing screams “New England” more than the landscaping at Prescott Farm in Middletown, RI! There is a large windmill, a duck pond, herb garden, creek, and beautifully maintained trees. I asked a member of our Navy family to join me for a family photo session to help build up my family photography portfolio.
We met in the parking lot about an hour before sunset. The day was very overcast and the light was fading fast! I did my best to go with the flow and use the foggy look to my advantage. In the end, I found plenty of places with beautiful light and fall colors.
In addition to the family photo session, I took a few headshots for the parents for their new website: Swanson Music Studio. They are both professional musicians for hire. They also provide music lessons.

Ricky and my husband are both trumpet players and are great friends. They met in college while studying trumpet music performance at Moorehead University. The last time we saw him was 2 1/2 years ago in Macau, China (of all places!). We really wanted to see him, especially since he hadn’t met our daughter. We packed up the Reid family front wheeled drive truckster and headed out to see him play!
Ricky was playing trumpet in the pit for A CHRISTMAS STORY, A MUSICAL at The Hanover Theatre in Worchester, Massachusetts. We had a little time to kill before the show. We got some breakfast and then some coffee. While at the coffee shop, Ricky and I decided that he needed some good portraits for his career as a musician. We headed across the street to a park and took some shots! The show was really good! The kids only made it through the first Act but that was okay. They are really young so the expectation of sitting still is very low! Lucky us, the ushers were dressed up in the pink bunny pajamas (as seen in the movie). That kept my kids mildly entertained.
As of right now, Ricky is earning his Ph.D. in Trumpet Music Performance. We’re pretty proud of him, to say the least!

Senior portrait session in Newport RI.
Angel was referred to me to photograph his senior portrait by one of his friends at high school. He was in a pinch to get his class photo for the yearbook on time. We met at Trinity Church in downtown Newport, RI. He introduced me to his mom and then I checked over his looks. He came well dressed and very prepared. I gave his face a “once over” with my favorite anti-shine product by Mac Cosmetics. From there, we walked around Thames St. amongst some of the New England styled buildings. The location was such a treat! Additionally, Angel was a natural with the camera. My favorite pose is the one where he is showing off his shoes. It is a very editorial look! We got some great images. Blog post is about senior portrait with photographer Jennifer Lee Johnson in Newport, RI:
I received a message from Jasmine’s mom that she needed a last minute photo shoot for her daughter’s senior portraits. They were due in a week! That was no problem for me! We were going to knock this out on time! Jasmine and her mom met me near O’Brien’s Pub in downtown Newport, RI by the wharf. First, we shot some water views near the yachts. It was too bad we weren’t invited to hang out on one of them! Then we sauntered over to a few beautifully lit porches and fences to round out the looks. Jasmine was nervous at first but she warmed up quickly when Kanye West was mentioned. Congratulations on graduating Jasmine! May your path be fortunate.

Ness’s Athletic Wear Photo Shoot At The Breakers in Newport Rhode Island
Ness quickly volunteered to be a model for me and my new lens. She was no stranger to modeling and had been a face for some major brands. She is a sales representative for active wear that is popular with Cross Fit gym goers. I really enjoyed applying her makeup and photographing her amazing bone structure. Despite the fog, everything naturally fell into place. Her positive attitude and ability to follow direction made the shoot very easy.
